Karavantin Durg is located between Panvel and Mathera in an Indian state known as Maharashta. My visit to the fort proved to be a very interesting and an educative adventure. I took the trip to the fort with my female friends and this was one of the most beautiful adventures I had been to. We reached our destination by the use of bound train as the fort is closer to Panvel. Once we arrived at Panvel we took a bus to Thakurwadi the base village. Once in Thakurwadi the trecking stated.
Trekking to the Karavantin Durg was very interesting as it felt like a climb into heaven. To begin with the steps that lead to the fort are made up of rocks. The height of the fort is 2000 Ft. high and this provides beautiful scenery where one can view Ershal, Chanderi and Karnala forts from the top. Trekking as a group proved to be very beneficial.
Halfway through the peak there is a snack bar that is known as Dhaba where we had a stopover to rest and buy some water as we were feeling exhausted. The terrain was uneven and the high steps posed as a challenge to me. However I had packed some granola and lemonade that gave me some instant energy. The climate in the fort varied with the attitude and hence the need for one to carry an inhaler if they have any breathing problem.
It took approximately three hours to reach the peak. I enjoyed spending some time watching some rivers flow at the vicinity of Kalavantin Durg. The most interesting part was watching the Holi and the Machi-Prabal local’s dance at the top of the peak as part of their culture as they celebrated the Shimga Festivals. While at the top of the fort we were also able to view the City of Mumbai and the attractive surroundings.
Once at the top we decided to take a long rest as we enjoyed the breath taking view. When the night unfolded we settled for dinner as we viewed the sky that was sparkling bright with the stars. The night was extremely cold so we lit a fire to keep us warm. The excitement was overwhelming and we could not catch any sleep. At dawn we started our journey down the fort and this was the trickiest part. However we managed to get down the rock steps by walking slowly.
